In the Hallway, Behind the Scenes
Behind the scenes of a movie set or TV show, there is much going on. There are many people, all with a multitude of tasks and responsibilities. Not one less important than the other.
As we watch the finished production, we often don’t think about all the steps that went into it. The credits roll on for what seems like minutes sometimes. Directors, actors and actresses, make-up crew, musical crew, and so many more. Each with an important task that affects the end product. If one person fails to show up for their task, the end result will not turn out as expected.
As I think about this process, I cannot help but think about the patience needed. To keep showing up when the days look long, or things aren’t coming together. There must be perseverance and a willingness to keep putting one foot in front of the other because you trust the outcome will be good.
It’s easy to get frustrated in those hallway moments. When you’re anxiously waiting for a door to open, but they all seem to remain closed, you may begin to question if you’re doing something wrong or if you simply don’t understand. It’s easy to look down on ourselves while we wait for what we think we ought to have, when we ought to have it.
I feel like there are days in my own life when I need a flashing billboard in front of me that reads: You’re not in control. I’ll be honest, more often than not, I continually try to take control over things that I simply cannot control. There are prayers I have prayed over and over and over again, yet there are days and nights when I lay awake trying to weigh pros and cons and making up all the endless what-ifs in my mind. It does me absolutely no good. It only makes me feel more anxious, upset, and stressed.
Lately God has been reminding me of His presence in my life through the gift of music. Songs that randomly come on a playlist while it’s calmly playing in the background of my day. The title of the song, if it couldn’t be more perfect, is “The Hallway,” by Samantha Ebert. I’ve included a link below. I immediately went back and replayed the song, taking special attention to the verses.
If I could skip ahead, fast forward to the end, then I might miss what you have right here and now.
I’m learning more and more the role of hallway moments in my life. Seasons where the best thing that I can do is to repeatedly say, “I trust you, God,” and “I yield to you.” A reminder that my finite mind cannot and will not ever be able to comprehend how great our God truly is.
Perhaps you’re in a hallway season right now. I hope I can encourage you to put your trust in God. To spend time with Him daily, thanking Him for all the goodness in your life, even if you’re waiting for something you so desperately want. God has big plans for each of His children, in His perfect timing. Our job is to be obedient, even in the waiting.
Psalm 37:7
Be silent before the Lord and wait expectantly for him; do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way, by the person who carries out evil plans.
