The Faithfulness of God

It’s evident throughout my life.  All of the dog-eared pages of my story.  Each of the stained pages.  They all hold evidence of God’s faithfulness.

As I look back over my life and as I’ve done when I wrote my book, Looking Back to Look Ahead, I can’t help but do so with gratitude.  It hasn’t been easy.  But there have been some wonderful moments as well.  Such is life.  We walk a path between joy and pain.

Psalm 145:13

For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.  You rule throughout all generations.  The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.

I’m reminded that God is not only faithful now, but He has been faithful then.  He will be faithful forever.  God is not held within the constraints of time.  He doesn’t just have 24 hours or 3 days.  God is omnipresent.  There are no deadlines with Him.  It’s an amazing concept that I cannot adequately wrap my mind around.

Psalm 90:4

For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours.

I find comfort in this.  Knowing that God already has my future planned.  He knows all of the details and the highs and lows.  I’ve heard it said before that if we knew all of God’s plans for our lives, we’d spend time trying to change the parts we didn’t like.  That we wouldn’t be content even if we had all of the insider information.

I know how much of a type-A person I tend to be.  I like to plan.  I like to organize.  I find great joy in checking boxes and getting things done.  I realize none of this is bad, but rather when I try to control all of the aspects of my life, is when I’m straying from God’s plan and design for my life.  When I start trying to do God’s job, something is wrong.

There’s never been a moment in my life in which God hasn’t come through for me.  Doesn’t mean each prayer was answered in the way in which I thought, but God has been with me every step of the way.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.

The same is true for you.  I challenge you to spend some time this week looking back at your life.  In all of the ways you’ve made it through the challenges and the smiles that come to your face when you think about the joys.  Give God thanks for the way He has been walking with you.  If it feels as though you’re still stuck in some mud and the thick of the valley, cry out to Him for help.  He’s there.  He’s waiting to lift you out.  His faithfulness is going to be made known.  Believe it today.
