On Shaky Ground

You’re hanging in limbo. Wondering and waiting for clarity and direction. Praying for answers and waiting with a heavy heart and an uneasy feeling in your stomach.

There’s not a day that goes by that we, ourselves, or someone close to us is not struggling. There’s been a lot of negativity in the news lately, and more often than not, social media is a catch-all for hate and conflict. Well-meaning friends often go at each other over various beliefs and values. It’s sad what happens. Words kill.

It’s easy to feel nervous watching the news and social media about all that’s happening in our world. Everyone seems to have a theory. Something we should try to save ourselves. Or if we aren’t trying something, there are so many scare tactics that include all the possible “what-ifs” that could ever happen. A recipe for disaster for someone who already battles anxiety. It’s enough to make you physically sick.

I’ve recently been challenged about who and what I place my trust in. When I take my eyes off of God, I crumble. I give in to the world’s anxiety, and I forget all that He’s done to provide for me and protect me. When I spend time in scripture, I’m reminded that, because of the fall in Genesis, we all live in a world encapsulated by sin. There are natural disasters, wars, upheavals, and more. This world does not value God, but I do.

While I may not be able to change what is happening in the world, I can decide whom I place my trust in. I can make an active decision every day to build a firm foundation for myself. The one on which I will not fall, even if I shake or get anxious sometimes. Placing my trust in a Heavenly Father to guide me through even the most choppy of waters.

Psalm 75:2-3

God says, “At the time I have planned, I will bring justice against the wicked.

When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm.

What about you today? Maybe you’re walking through a lot and dealing with some anxiety of your own. Don’t lose hope. Don’t forget there’s a God who loves you and who is fighting for you. Place your faith in Him today. Nothing takes Him by surprise. While things may look and feel scary from time to time, I believe God will lead us through. I believe He will make a way. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, and He goes before us. Rest in His presence today. Place your faith in Him. On His firm foundation, you will stand.
