Hurled Into The Storm

Ever feel like you’re being hurled into the storm? You’re being tossed and thrown around like it’s nothing. Fighting to stay afloat and handle everything coming your way.

It’s overwhelming.

It’s easy to feel like giving up. Like the fight isn’t worth it. Nothing is changing in your circumstances despite your best efforts. You feel so tired. I know, I’ve been there.

I was listening to a new album by LO Worship recently, and Sadie Robertson Huff shared a reminder that I’ve been clinging to like crazy over the past couple of weeks. She shared this quote by Charles Spurgeon: “I have learned to kiss the waves that throw me up against the Rock of Ages.

I can’t get past the imagery. Follow along with me for a second. Picture yourself standing on the beach, sand between your toes, waves crashing all around.

One of my favorite places is Honeymoon Island near Tampa, Florida. I’ve visited many times. Sometimes the waves crash more violently than others, especially when a storm is approaching. I love Honeymoon Island, not only because it’s the beach, but also because it’s peaceful. It’s a local hotspot, often safe from the tourist crowds and noise. It’s when I’ve been there that I’ve been reminded of God’s presence and God’s might while standing at the edge of the waves. Though the storms may roll on, I am safe standing on the Rock of Ages.

In my life right now, I feel like I’m in a storm. When you’re facing uncertain days with family and health, it’s easy to feel like you’ve lost all sense of control. It’s easier to fall into anxiety and overwhelm, letting your thoughts run away from you. You’re tired, and you have every reason to be. The storms are raging all around. I’m clinging to that Rock of Ages more than anything.

Isaiah 26:4 - Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.

There’s not a storm that God doesn’t know. There’s not a wave He cannot calm. There’s no miracle He cannot perform. I’m learning, in the midst of my own storms, to cling to the Father when I’m running on empty. To allow His peace to fill my lungs and His strength to lift me up when I feel like falling. It sure is easier to think we can manage on our own, but giving our concerns, worries, fears, and all our problems to Him truly allows us to receive the power of God. He is the only One who can handle everything anyway. It may seem like the end is near, but God does His best work in us when we are wholly surrendered to Him. There may be miracles just around the corner. I remember hearing this very thing on a podcast. You could be minutes or days away from your biggest miracle. Don’t lose hope.

Jeremiah 5:22 - Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the Lord, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.

Maybe today, you’re in a storm. You don’t know which way is out, and you wonder when the sun will shine again, and all will seem right. You are not alone. God is working out every single detail on your behalf. There’s not a problem or circumstance too big or too small for Him to work a miracle. Don’t close your eyes to what He has in store. As Scripture states, on the boundary of the sand, the water cannot cross. Though evil may roar in this world, God is a strong Rock that will keep us safe. Whatever the storm, keep your eyes on Him. Cling to the Rock of Ages. And check out this reminder. You’ll want to listen many times, I can assure you.
