Clear as Day

I’ve never been one who has audibly “heard” God speak. I’ve heard people all of my life share how God speaks to them, and if I’m honest, I’ve always wondered if something was wrong with me. Was my faith sub-par? There but not quite there? A work in progress?

Over the past year, as Ben and I have parented through foster care, my faith has been tested more than I ever thought it could be. I’ve had to rely on God because it would not be possible to make it through without Him. The ups and downs and twists and turns have required persistent prayer. Persistent knocking on the doors of Heaven for wisdom, strength, and the ability to love recklessly without fear.

It’s been living in seasons of no wimpy prayers.

One morning while driving to work, I felt overwhelmed, exhausted, and very emotional. There have been times in my life when I’ve prayed for signs from God to let me know He is near. That I’m not crazy. Encouragement to keep persevering. God has provided me with little reminders all along the way. The right verse, an inspirational quote, a cardinal in the tree, a road sign, a text from a friend, a song, and so much more.

The key is that if I ask, I must be willing to look for the answer. Otherwise, I’ll miss it.

In my weakness that morning, I told God I had no idea how things would go, but I relinquished control to Him and said, "Please help us.” I distinctly felt in my heart and soul that God said, “Watch me work.” Nothing more and nothing less.

Three simple words, clear as day in my mind. I’ve been sitting with them ever since that morning. A reminder to me that God created the entire world. Because He’s that mighty, I can trust His guidance.

I don’t know what you’re facing today. I imagine you’ve been through some tough times recently, but if you haven’t, you know someone who has. None of us is immune to walking through difficult circumstances, whether we elect to walk into them on our own or are thrown into them against our will. I hope to encourage you today by reminding you that God is working out all things on your behalf. He is orchestrating all of the little, minute details in ways that one day you will be able to look back and know without a shadow of a doubt that it was God, and God only. So today, don’t lose heart. Be aware of the ways God will show you TODAY that He is close. Don’t miss them. Whatever may come in the days and weeks ahead, may we still choose to praise Him always.

Psalm 32:6-8

Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.

For you are my hiding place; you surround me with songs of victory.

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
